Burak Onur Erdem graduated from the music theory and conducting departments of the Center for Advanced Music Studies at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Before his music education, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Political Science & International Relations at Bogazici University with the Rector's Award. He graduated from the doctoral program at of the Center for Advanced Music Studies at ITU with his thesis titled "Rehearsal Efficiency: Choral Conducting Methodology." He completed his postdoctoral studies with Prof. Johannes Prinz at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

He founded the Choral Culture Association to produce international projects for Turkish choral music. In 2015, he was elected to the board of directors and the music commission of the European Choral Association (ECA-EC), and in 2018, he was appointed as the European representative to the board of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM). He won the "Best Young Conductor" award at the 38th Varna International Choir Competition and served as a jury member at the 66th Arezzo International Choir Competition. He currently serves as the chairman of the music commission for Leading Voices 2022, the European Choir Leaders' Days, to be held in Utrecht.

In 2010, he founded the Istanbul-based chamber choir Rezonans and led the choir in numerous international projects. From 2013 to 2016, he served as the conductor of the Istanbul European Choir, one of Turkey's oldest symphonic choirs.

Since 2017, Burak Onur Erdem has been the conductor of the State Polyphonic Choir.
