BURAK ONUR ERDEM
Burak Onur Erdem is the founder & conductor of Rezonans, and the conductor of Ministry of Culture and Tourism State Choir Turkey.
He completed his master’s degree in Music Theory & Choral Conducting at Istanbul Technical University Centre for Advanced Studies in Music where he still pursues his PhD degree. Prior
to his musical education, he graduated from the Political Science & International Relations Department of Boğaziçi University with the Rector’s Award.
He refined his choral conducting skills through international masterclasses by working actively with Anders Eby, Volker Hempfling, Johannes Prinz, Denes Szabo, Michael Gohl and Georg Grün, and also by participating in numerous courses.
He was selected as the principle conductor of the Istanbul European Choir, the oldest symphonic choir of the city with a history of 50 years, from 2013 to 2016. He served as guest and assistant conductor of the State Choir Turkey since 2013 and has been appointed as its principal conductor and artistic director in 2017.
He initiated one of the prominent choral festivals of Turkey, KoroFest, in 2009 and founded the Choral Culture Association in 2012 to create innovative projects for Turkish choral music scene. He has been elected to the Board of the European Choral Association for 2015-2018 period and is a member of the federation’s music commission.
As a training certificate program for choral conductors, he initiated the Bahçeşehir University Choral School in 2014 and is still the coordinator of the program. He gave numerous workshops on choral music, primarily in the Ayvalık International Music Academy. He assisted Michael Gohl for Open Singing in Europa Cantat Festival 2015. He was invited as a speaker in various occasions like TEDx, European Music Council and appeared as keynote speaker in ITU Graduation Ceremony.
He founded the choral ensemble Rezonans in 2010 and acts as its artistic director & conductor ever since. In 8 seasons, the choir performed with world renowned musicians like Nigel Short, Brady Allred, Jo-Michael Scheibe, Simon Carrington, Eric Whitacre and Georg Grün. The choir achieved great success in some of the most prestigious choral competitions in the world: The Second Prize from Cork International Fleischmann Trophy, the Third Prize from Arezzo Choral Competition and “The Best Young Conductor” Prize from International May Choir Competition in Varna.
